HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The Harrisonburg Planning Commission invites the public to voice their opinion on the updated Downtown Streetscape Plan.

This is all happening after making revisions to the plans, after the original meeting with the Planning Commissions, back in January.

Several important items being talked about in this plan. First, recommendations for improved transportation. Second, what can be improved to make the streets more visually appealing. For example, nicer sidewalks and more upgraded traffic signals, to match the other street lights downtown.

This plan also includes recommendations for improved safety for bikers and walkers when traveling downtown and expanding parking opportunities to accommodate the growing businesses downtown.

Miesha Horton lives downtown and is interested in attending Wednesday night's hearing. She said, the increased sidewalks will make a big difference for her family.

"It would make me feel a lot better if they had those lights downtown so that my kids could see, that way they can ride their bikes downtown and I will feel safer for my children to ride downtown," said Horton.

If they get the recommendation, they plan to meet with city council within the next month or two.

The meeting is Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
