More Bears Involved in Car Crashes

WAYNESBORO,Va. (WHSV) -- Bears are getting closer and closer to the road and causing car crashes.

Over the weekend, state police responded to some car accidents in Rockingham and Augusta County involving bears.

Dr. Dave McRuer, the Director of Veterinary Services at The Wildlife Center of Virginia, said right now the bears are trying to find food before going into hibernation and because of poor food crop they are coming into more populated areas.

"Right now we are dealing with one or two phone calls a day from people who has seen bears hit or wandering around near the road and we have seen wild bears wander down or close to the Wildlife Center," said McRuer

McRuer said if you do see a bear do not stop and feed them. Instead, you should call police or the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
