Rockingham County School Board Meeting to Approve Salaries, Discuss Safety Bid

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- The Rockingham County School Board will meet in Harrisonburg to talk about school safety on Monday night.

Chairman Dan Breeden said the initial safety bid exceeded the $500,000 the Board of Supervisors had given to the school system.

Monday's meeting will be a chance to tie up loose ends and look at a portion of the security bid they are able to grant.

Director of Maintenance Steve Reid will be presenting the portion of the bid that would pay for security systems in school.

Now that the Board of Supervisors has approved the school budget they will also be approving the salary scales.

That approval will include approving school employees' 2 % pay raises.

The originial proposal, presented weeks ago at a school board meeting was for $ 68,000 to add electric latches to officer doors and communication systems in 17 schools.

"He granted the bids that were requested. The total amount would have exceeded the amount of money that we had been allocated to spend," said Breeden.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Andes conference room at the Rockingham County Public Schools building in harrisonburg.
