ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Another fire started in the county just as crews finished battling a fire at RR Donnelley Wednesday night.
Due to the other fire, Assistant Fire Marshal Joe Mullens said many firefighters had to work 36 hours with no break.
"And for them it's a challenge because they're already tired,” said Mullens, “Their gear and equipment can be damaged or wet and can be harder to work with. I do know that some of the crews have been at the station a very short time, put some dry hose and some other equipment on the rig and then they come right back out here."
Smoke from the fire at Mistimore Plants farm on Pike Church Road could be seen from miles away.
The family had an outdoor wood stove inside a storage building. Mullens said there was also a propane tank leaking next to the fire.
The fire is extinguished and no one was hurt. Crews are still investigating the cause.
