STAUNTON -- Some Congressional lawmakers want to include women in the draft.
The military hasn't needed to use the draft since the 1970s, but the debate comes after the decision to lift a ban on women in combat.
Elizabeth Limerick, a cadet at Mary Baldwin College, said allowing women to be drafted could be a symbolic move.
“It's long overdue,” said Limerick, “I think that every citizen of the United States of America needs to serve their country in some capacity. I think that if women were able to be in the draft, it would just help that.”
The draft currently registers men from ages 18 to 25.
