ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- A cornfield in Rockingham County is receiving a lot of visitors after neighbors spotted a snowy owl near Exit 240 on Interstate 81.

Many cars were stopping on Cecil Wampler Road to take a peak Friday.

Daryl Owens, a birdwatcher, traveled forty miles out of his way to find the snowy owl.

He spotted the owl across the interstate near a tree.

We saw him too, but only through binoculars.

"It's a distance so we didn't get a perfect look at it, but enough to tell what is was. It's a great feeling to get a look at it. This is the first one I ever saw," said Owens.

Other people not even from the area also came to Rockingham County to spot the owl.

Amy Leep Wooddell who shared her pictures with us, said it has been in the area since at least Christmas Day.
