HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Social Security Administration building on East Elizabeth street is set to undergo a transformation as the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Social Services department expands to that building.
But, almost every day people continue to come to the old building, assuming they will find the current office.
We looked online and on secondary sites such as Yellow Pages and MapQuest, the old address and old phone number are listed.
When you try the old phone number listed on those sites, it is disconnected.
The old location on East Elizabeth street shows a map with the new location off of Gay street, across from the U.S. Post Office.
The new location changed on January 22, according to an email from Social Security Admistration Communications Director.
Plus, the official site shows the correct address.
A man who drove up looking for the office on Tuesday afternoon talked about his experience.
"This is day three trying to find it, the navigation system led me actually on East Market street or this street out here. And then from then on I was driving around for 15, 20 minutes each day....Definitely is an inconvenience because at one point I was like, do we even have one in Harrisonburg. I thought I was going to have to drive to Charlottesville," said Ernad Halilovic.
The new location is on 351 North Mason street and that's available online at www.socialsecurity.gov.
It's the secondary sites that come up first in searches, which may be causing confusion.
Director Terri Lewis said that many services don't require an in person visit because services are online.
People who work at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Social Services building also said they have people who come into their offices and ask about the new location.
