The historic Staunton National Cemetery is currently undergoing a makeover that should be completed by next fall.
The cemetery has not received maintenance in over 140 years.
The main goal of the contractors is to not disturb any of the graves or trees that are on the cemetery lot.
The cemetery will be raising headstones that have sunk into the ground. The contractors will also be replacing the grass within the space.
The renovations will cost more than $300,000.
The National Staunton Cemetery has several graves for unknown soldiers that date back to just after the civil war.
