With Monday's high temperatures, many people escaped to air conditioned movie theaters on Memorial Day.
That was a welcome change to theater owners who have seen a decline in movie goers the last several months. Owners hope summer movies will break that slump.
On Monday afternoon, people swarmed the Zeus Theater in Waynesboro to catch an flick.
Owner Brett Hayes, who opened the theater only seven months ago, says the holiday traffic is a good sign for them because the summer movie season will bring an increase in attendance to local theaters.
"We were off about 20 percent for our business plan, but the industry was off by 30 percent. So, we felt like we were stronger than what the industry was doing, and we think that as the better movies come out, which are coming out now, that we'll get closer to what our business plan was," says Hayes.
