HARRISONBURG, Va. -- A local baking company will now be selling their goods at the Friendly City Food Co-Op.
Sunberry Baking Company is run by two people who are vegan. They use a friend's kitchen to make all of their baked goods, which are either vegan or gluten free. Co-owner Justin Van Kleeck tells said he and his wife Rosemary really want to spread the word that you can be vegan and eat food that doesn't "taste like twigs."
Van Kleeck said they launched the baking company in September. They sell baked goods weekly at the farmers market right now and their food is made with fair trade and organic ingredients.
They also try to use as many locally based ingredients as they can. The deli case at the co-op will feature their products twice a week. Justin said selling his items at the co-op is a natural choice, because it's community owned.
When you try a product, he wants customers to walk away thinking it tasted good.. not thinking that it's vegan.
"And they may not even know after eating them that they're vegan because we want them to be so good that you know they just get addicted to them because the taste and the texture and the smells and the appearance are so good that they just want to grab them off the shelf," Van Kleeck said.
Sunberry baking products will be at the co-op on Tuesdays and Fridays.
