Suspected Va Shoplifter Hit by Car Dies

Waynesboro police say a suspected shoplifter who was hit by a car as he ran from officers has died.

Sgt. Brian Edwards says 26-year-old Brian E. Wrenn of Staunton died Monday at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Police said Wrenn was suspected of stealing a humidifier from a Walmart in Waynesboro on Jan. 25. He dropped the item when confronted outside the store and took off on foot.

Wrenn was struck by a motorist and was initially taken to a hospital in Fishersville with head injuries.

The News Leader (http://bit.ly/yWhFpf) reports Wrenn was convicted three times previously on charges of eluding police.
