ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Recent rain and flooding in the Valley increased the risk of dangerous accidents. A WHSV reporter spoke with Corporal Chris Greathead of the Rockingham County Sheriffs Office about that risk.

Corporal Greathead said water rescue is very difficult. He suggests anyone stuck in a vehicle call 911 and, if he or she is not sinking, try to wait to be seen. He said the best way to stay safe is to not try to cross moving water.

Corporal Greathead said, "Water is dangerous, especially swift water. It can lead to serious injury, or worse. The worse side is something I don't enjoy dealing with, it's pretty emotional."

He suggests drivers be cautious and aware of any moving water road conditions.
