Texas Woman Honors Memory of W.Va. Liver Donor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A Texas woman who received a new liver is honoring the memory of the donor -- a 12-year-old West Virginia girl who passed away suddenly last year.

Nefeterius McPherson wore West Virginia University gold and blue at the Mountaineers' football game last weekend against the University of Texas in Austin. The T-shirt belonged to Taitlyn Hughes of Martinsburg.

McPherson is a 38-year-old lawyer from Killeen who met Taitlyn's family just three months after her surgery. She was shocked to learn her donor was only a child. Taitlyn died of a sudden brain hemorrhage last November.

McPherson has vowed to keep Taitlyn's memory alive and spread awareness about the importance of organ donation, including through her Facebook page.

Taitlyn's mother, Nicole Siva, says her daughter often discussed her plans to "change the world." And while Taitlyn never got the chance to fulfill her dreams, Siva tells The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/SQEMx9) that McPherson is doing it for her.
