Many of you attended Valley Fourth, here in Harrisonburg.

The July 4th event included some food, a parade, and a little bit of controversy.

Hundreds of people watched last night's fireworks in downtown Harrisonburg but some were not happy with the display.

We got your feedback on Facebook to get your take on the fireworks.

Emily Hummel says "I was dissatisfied, 10 minutes? Could had been more."

Tabitha Dovel also commented saying "I agree last years were better and longer. Plus the music stopped after the parade, but i enjoyed myself anyway."

We took your feedback to the Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance who organized the Valley Fourth festivities.

"We appreciate their feedback," says Kim Kirk, Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance Special Events Manager. "We definitely recognize that larger cities tend to have a long fireworks display but we are somewhat limited in that the fireworks happen in the core of downtown so it limits the type of fireworks that we're able to use as well as the resources that we have to be able to put them off."

However, most people enjoyed Valley Fourth here in downtown Harrisonburg.

Kirk says the festival drew a record number of people.

One of the more popular events was Grillin' at the Pavilion.

Eight different teams participated in the barbeque cook off.

The sampling tickets were sold out in a matter of minutes.

Valley Fourth organizers say they would consider the entire day a success.

"The event yesterday was great. We couldn't have asked for a better crowd. I don't think that the rain dampered any of the events at all. In fact, I think that it just cooled things down and helped everybody stay a little bit longer and have a great time." says Kim Kirk.

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance continues to see how they can improve the the Valley Fourth for next year.

They would like to organize another food competition if community feedback is good. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
