HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Some parking garages in downtown Harrisonburg are seeing some changes as The Living Wall is nearing completion this week.

The system will have a solar pump, which will water the plants themselves. Furthermore, the system will clean the runoff from the parking deck, before it reaches local streams.

Kirk McClay, a Harrisonburg student, said he is learning about this in the classroom and it is neat to see it on a larger scale.

"I learn that it helps recycle it, to make it cleaner, like plants recycle stuff into oxygen and what the rain comes down, it cleans it out," said McClay.

Eddie Bumbaugh, with the Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, said they raised several thousand dollars to complete this project. They've been working on it for more than a year, and it will be complete by the end of this week.

In addition to The Living Wall, a display case was also added to the parking garage, to give more information to visitors about local events going on.
