BROADWAY, Va -- George Lange is proud of his service.

“It's just an honor to be able to say that I'm a veteran,” said Lange.

Lange served in the Navy for 20 years and it has been more than 30 years since he retired. He still remembers his time in the Navy, like it was yesterday.

“When I enlisted in the Navy, there was several of us from my home town who went together."

Lange said some of them never made it back home.

"The people that are not there anymore. They gave the ultimate sacrifice. Sometimes it's very hard."

The town of Broadway is dedicating a wall for veterans, like Lange, and for those who are no longer with us. With the wall, the town of Broadway wants to thank veterans in the community for their service. Not only on Veterans Day, but 365 days a year.

Town Manager Kyle O'Brien said this is the first thing people will see when they come into town. The $99,000 dollar project took six months.

"We have close to 10,000 vehicles come here to a daily basis so it's a very important and visible way to know that the town is honoring the veterans," said O'Brien.

Lange said it makes people realize veterans chose to serve.

“It should be a constant reminder that each of us of the armed forces served voluntarily,” said Lange.

Some of those veterans even lost their lives.

"As a visual reminder of what they have done for our country."

O'Brien said the area had been run down before the project started.

The area will also be used for the farmers market.

The town paid for it through a federal grant.
