NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Two middle school students who allegedly put hand sanitizer in their teacher's drinks are facing felony charges.
Newport News Police spokesman Lou Thurston tells ABC affiliate WVEC-TV the two have been arrested and each charged with attempted poisoning. Both are 13 years old.
The investigation began in late January when a school resource officer received a tip. The intended target was a 66-year-old Hampton woman.
According to WVEC, the woman regularly drinks tea and had to see her doctor for health concerns she had been experiencing.
During the investigation, Newport News Public Schools administrators placed the students on long-term suspension and reassigned them to an alternative school.
They were arrested at that alternative school on March 6.
