Harrisonburg and Rockingham County homeless programs will receive $42,000 in grant money.
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority applied for the grant to help with its homeless management information system.
The system is a community-wide software program that helps agencies keep an accurate count of the homeless.
"All of those individuals or people experiencing homelessness requires different strategies, so by having a good count, and knowing the demographics, it assists us in creating the local resources to be able to address those needs," says Michael Wong, executive director of the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
Wong says the numbers can also help them access additional funding to try to put an end to homelessness in the Valley.
