Virginia Jobs Report Paints Positive Picture for the Valley

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The Virginia Workforce Center released both state and local numbers for jobs in August.

Compared to July, unemployment went down in almost every area of the Valley.

In Harrisonburg, the unemployment rate dropped from 7.2 percent in July to 6.4 percent in August, .9 percent lower than August 2012.

In Staunton, it dropped from 6.1 to 5.7 percent, 1.3 percent lower than August 2012.

In Waynesboro, it stayed the same as 6.3 percent, .2 percent lower than August 2012.

In Rockingham County, it dropped from 5.1 to 4.6 percent, .9 percent lower than August 2012.

In Augusta County, it dropped from 5.1 to 4.9 percent, .7 percent lower than August 2012.

In Page County, it dropped from 8.3 to 8.2 percent, 1 percent lower than August 2012.

In Shenandoah County, it dropped from 6.1 to 5.7 percent, .8 percent lower than August 2012.

The national unemployment rate for August 2013 was 7.3 percent, while Virginia's unemployment rate was 5.6 percent.
