Volunteers Plan Search for Missing Va. Hiker

STAUNTON, Va. (AP) -- A team of volunteers is planning a weekend search of Shenandoah Mountain for a Staunton hiker who went missing in mid-November.

Staunton dentist and Valley Hikers coordinator Alan White tells The News Leader that the search will be conducted Saturday.

Volunteers originally planned to search for 60-year-old Bobby Fitzgerald in December. But snow forced them to postpone the effort.

Police say Fitzgerald dropped his cell phone while hiking on the Confederate Breastworks Trail and other trails with a friend on Nov. 11. Authorities believe he returned the next day to find the phone. He hasn't been seen since then.

Local and state authorities have conducted several searches but haven't found any trace of Fitzgerald.
