Virginia voting laws are very close to becoming more strict. A bill passed in Virginia's Senate requires all voters to show official identification before casting their ballot.

Supporters of the bill said the purpose is to prevent voter fraud. Rockingham County's registrar said right now if you don't have identification, you can sign paperwork saying who you are.

If this bill goes into effect, that will no longer be good enough.

"If they say they don't have it, they left it at home, they don't have time to go back and get it, they are going to be given the option of voting a provisional ballot," said Doug Geib, Voter Registrar of Rockingham County.

Submitting a provisional ballot means your vote will not count until you prove your identity. In many cases, the winner of the election might already be determined by that point.
