LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Washington & Lee University says a traffic accident has killed one student and injured nine others.

President Kenneth P. Ruscio says in a statement posted on the school's website that Kelsey Durkin of New Canaan died in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday in Rockbridge County.

Ruscio says six students were treated at a hospital in Lexington and released. Three students were transported from the Lexington hospital to other area hospitals.

Virginia State Police tell media outlets that the vehicle's driver was charged with driving under the influence.
