A West Virginia state senator is among the injured after summer storms thrashed much of the state.
Senate President Jeff Kessler says Sen. Mark Wills suffered a closed head and internal injuries in a Friday car crash.
Kessler said the violent storm caught the Mercer County Democrat as he drove to Summersville with his daughter and another passenger.
Wills was apparently rear-ended by another vehicle, and his car ended up hitting a bridge abutment.
Kessler said Wills was alert and stable and Charleston Area Medical Center, but remains in intensive care under observation. This daughter and the other passenger were treated and released.
The 56-year-old Wills was elected to the Senate in 2010 to complete an unexpired term. He is running this year for a full four-year term.
