The Waynesboro Fire Department wants to make sure you're prepared in case a fire starts at your home.

Firefighters were getting their station ready all day Saturday for their annual open house ahead of the start of Fire Prevention Week.

With recent fire tragedies fresh in the community's mind, Waynesboro firefighters want to make sure that everyone knows how to stay safe if it happens to them.

They'll be doing demonstrations and helping people plan escape routes during Sunday's open house. Smoke alarm safety and medical skills training are also planned.

"People always get something they did not know," said firefighter Bob Donaldson of the open house. "They always ask a bunch of questions, because we can sit here all day long and play the what if game. You don't know what's going to happen. We help give you all the answers if this does happen."

The open house is from 1p.m. to 4p.m. Sunday at the West Broad Street fire station in Waynesboro.
