The city of Waynesboro will receive over $10,000 in federal grant funds to help upgrade their ten member bicycle patrol team.
The patrol team’s current bicycles are about 16 years old and show extreme wear.
Currently, the police department has three operational bicycles for the entire team.
The funding will go toward the purchase of four new bicycles, which will help the effectiveness of bike patrols.
Bicycle patrol duties include response to calls for service, narcotics enforcement, traffic enforcement, undercover surveillance, community policing and details for special community events.
