WAYNESBORO -- The Wildlife Center of Virginia needs your help. A recent addition to the staff is in desperate need of a name before she starts making educational trips around the Valley.

In 2012 the Wildlife Center of Virginia acquired a barred owl from animal control officers in Richmond. For the past year, that owl has been known as Patient #25-08.

The owl has neurological damage that leaves her with only 75 percent of her vision. Because of that, it's not safe to release her back into the wild.

The Wildlife Center will house her with another owl. After some training, Wildlife Center workers will take the owl to schools and libraries to educate kids. That's why they want school kids in grades K through 12 across the nation to think of a name.

“We may have to let her pick out of the big list at the end. They've been coming in. We have 39 submissions, so far, from nine different states and Canada. It's pretty wide-reaching,” said Amanda Nicholson, the director of outreach for the Wildlife Center.
