Woman Hit by Train in Augusta County

LYNDHURST, Va, -- A woman is dead after being hit by a train Saturday evening.

According to the Augusta County Sheriff's Office, she was fishing on a bridge moments before.

Sergeant Brian Jenkins says the 19-year-old woman was fishing with a man when he yelled to her that a train was coming. Jenkins said she wasn't able to get off the tracks in time.

The train operator allegedly flashed their lights, sounded their horn and put on the emergency brake.

Even so, the train did not stop until about a quarter mile past the bridge.

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office and Norfolk Southern are still investigating.
