ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- Jackson Reel was a high school wrestler, who died in a car crash a little more than a month ago. Now, his former wrestling teammates at Turner Ashby High School started the wrestling season without their friend. They remembered Reel this season and his legacy is motivating the team to do well.
Reel and his friend Cyndal Ward died after a car crash.
Now, wrestling teammates are using Reel's old gear in practices and in wrestling matches. They said they bonded as a team after Reel and Ward's deaths.
Luke Kiser, one of Reel's former teammates, now wears Reel's old uniform while wrestling and he said that helps encourage the team to do well.
“It's definitely different,” said Kiser, “You get the feeling that something's missing, and it is. If we hang out with each other, we kind of bond together and help each other through it. It's better to have friends in tough times than no one at all.”
Friends of both students have talked about the impact the two had at Turner Ashby. A Facebook page honoring the two students has nearly 6,000 people remembering their legacy.
