The perjury case against Barry Bonds is now on hold.
Prosecutors told a federal judge in San Francisco Friday that they plan to get a new indictment against baseball's home run king.
Last month, the judge had told prosecutors the original indictment lumped too many allegations into too few counts. She said they should either drop some or add more charges.
The judge has ordered the sides to return to court in June. That makes it unlikely a trial would start before next year.
Bonds was indicted in November on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. The charges stem from grand-jury testimony in which he denied knowingly taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
The 43-year-old outfielder was let go by the San Francisco Giants after last season. He remains a free agent and says he wants to play this year.
