One-thousand dollars was awarded Thursday for a project at Spotswood High School.

WHSV-TV3 and Merck, the drug company in Elkton, combined to give the monetary award to special education teacher Liz Gillenwater.

The Businesses Making a Difference grant will be used to help special education students with community-based and life skills instruction.

Gillenwater says, "And some of the things we found that life skills just your typical cooking, going out in the community, being able to shop, being able to budget their money, doing checking accounts."
