The Harrisonburg High School Key Club got a big boost Friday in its efforts to start a teen recreational center.

WHSV-TV3 And LD and B Insurance gave a $1,000 Businesses Making a Difference grant to the group.

The key club wants to have the center in downtown Harrisonburg.

They say it would be a place where teens can meet after school, on weekends, or for special events.

HHS Key Club President Olivia Quach says, "The major aspect that we're looking for right now is someone who's willing to donate space downtown. As that is the major hurdle to starting the teen recreational center."

The group hopes to have the teen center open by next school year.

Smitty's Tavern and Grill, Upper Tract, WV is sponsoring a Poker Run, Sat. May 24th. All proceeds will be delegated between area schools and Parks and Recreation. This, so far, looks to be a quite and event and hopefully, will raise money to help continue building the Pendletson Co. Park and Petersburg Elementary School, who are in dire need of paper products and materials for educational purposes.
