A middle school in Rockingham County will better be able to help its students stay fit.

J. Frank Hillyard Middle School was awarded $1,000 Thursday through the Project 3 grant program.

Loyalton of Harrisonburg made the donation, and chose the winner.

Teacher Matt Morrow submitted the proposal for more equipment for a fitness room.

He says, "Our youth today are battling a serious problem, which is obesity, and our goal as physical educators is to help these kids learn lifetime goals and try to stay healthy as long as possible. And for us to create a fitness room which, you know, some kids that don't even have an opportunity to get to, this will help them get an idea of lifelong fitness through a fitness room."

Project 3 is a program involving WHSV TV3, local businesses and area schools.
