When the economy goes down, customers shopping for groceries go up.
Red Front Supermarket manager John Garber says, "Especially now with economic times the way they are, everybody's looking to save a buck any way they can."
The number one grocery shopper saver is Sunday paper coupons.
Garber says, "They can be a really good savings if it's an item you use. We've seen our coupon redemption double or tripled what it was say two or three years ago."
He says, if customers look hard enough, they can find those deals that really save.
"Another tool that most all food retailers are the ten for ten or dollar sales. You just sell so much merchandise because folks just fill their pantries and that's great because we get our sale and they get a bargain," says Garber.
Red Front Shopper and meat cutter Frank William says, "I get my pick five's here because it really is a bargain."
Williams says he's always stocking up on things like ribs, turkey breasts and hamburger meat while he can.
"First part of the month, that's really a great time people come in. Weekends and times like that because we can get a variety of stuff for $20," says Williams.
As the economy continues to take a bite out of jobs, Garber sees basic food items flying off the shelves.
"All of the old staples where people are getting in the kitchen and cooking, are selling," says Garber.
Williams says, "The consumers save. So, it's a win-win."
