Tuition and fees at George Mason University will increase by nearly ten percent next year.

Mandatory costs for in-state undergraduates will jump 9.8 percent.

For the 2008-2009 academic year, tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates will rise $672, to $7,512. Out-of-state costs will increase 9.7 percent to $21,648.

Earlier this week, Virginia Tech announced that tuition and fees will increase nearly 11 percent for in-state students. The University of Virginia will increase tuition and fees more than nine percent.

The schools have said the increases are necessary because of state budget cuts.
