Loudoun County has started using school buses equipped with seat belts.

Thirty-three of more than 700 buses come with the three-point restraints and high seat backs.

The county's policy makes seat belt use optional.

It costs about $10,000 more per school bus to equip the vehicles with seat belts. As old buses get phased out, they will be replaced with those equipped with seat belts.
