One school system in the Valley is making efforts to improve student safety.
Starting Monday, all employees of Staunton City Schools are required to wear school division issued identification badges while on school property.
Students may already notice that teachers are wearing the IDs, but school officials want to send the message that it will not be an option.
R.E. Lee Principal Mark Rowicki says guests will be required to check in and get badges as well.
He says, "Any adult that's in the building will have either a badge like this, if you're an employee of the school system, or a visitors or substitute teachers badge. Basically, what it does is it lets us know when we see someone walking around the halls, we can see the badge, we know that they've checked into the main office, are OK to be in the school, and there's a reason they're in school."
