It's International Walk to School Week. Wednesday morning, kids from Mountain View and Spotswood Elementary School walked to school for the event.

International Walk to School Week gives kids from local schools a chance to get out and enjoy the fresh air before school starts.

"It's a chance for all the kids who live everywhere close to the school to walk to school, and the people who ride on the bus are also participating. They are going to be dropped off on the hill," says Hannah Daniel, a fourth grader at Spotswood Elementary.

Angela Leffel is a Physical Education coach at Spotswood Elementary, and she invited kids and their parents over to her house for a healthy breakfast before the walk to school.

"It's our second year doing this, inviting the neighborhood kids to walk to school together. It's a lot of fun," says Leffel.

After breakfast, kids were able to get some play time in at Leffel's mini-rec center downstairs. Then it was off to school, with all the kids safe despite a few stumbles.

"I think it's important because kids need to know how to exercise and all that stuff. That's really great for their body and all that stuff, and it's a fun way to participate in a great activity," says Hannah.

Some other schools participating this week include Waterman, South River, and Keister Elementary schools.
