So there's no more wondering where the state's budget cuts will be and it's affecting at least two Valley colleges, though one of them says they expected worse.

Gov. Tim Kaine states, "We’re not like the federal government. When there's a big gap between revenue and expenses, just crank up the debt machine."

Since we do not have a debt machine is Virginia, Kaine says we need to make real decisions, in real time, to keep things balanced. That is what Virginians expect and that's what they are going to get from Kaine and the state.

So Kaine announced his plan Thursday calling for cuts, cuts and more cuts.

These cuts include taking $20 million away from the Virginia Community College Systems. Blue Ridge Community College is no exception.

BRCC's Dr. John Downey says, "The budget cut is probably better news than what we anticipated."

They were asked to cut five percent, which represents about a half million dollars on a $10-million budget.

It was easier on BRCC because they were prepared at the beginning of the year and delayed filling positions in anticipation something like this could happen.

However, Downey fears more cuts could be coming their way. Kaine did say that 2010 could also see budget cuts in its fiscal year.
