Residents from the Sunnyside Retirement Community carved pumpkins with pre-kindergarten students at Cub Run Elementary School Wednesday morning.
"Some of our friends that we had here today are well up into their 90s, one even 102. So there's almost a 95- to 100-year difference in their ages, so it was fun,” says Ann Ford, who teaches pre-kindergarten at Cub Run.
Every month, Ford’s class does a program with Sunnyside based on the season. The Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. funds the program.
“I applied for a grant to do this about nine or ten years ago,” says Ford. “Sometimes we go there, and other times they’ll come here.”
The Rockingham Educational Foundation awards grants to help teachers with innovative teaching ideas pay for resources.
The class has another event planned with the retirement community in November.
