Public school systems, colleges and universities across West Virginia have canceled classes ahead of a major winter storm.

Students in 29 of West Virginia's 55 counties got a day off Friday, while Preston and Wetzel counties planned to send students home several hours early.

Concord University closed both its Athens and Beckley campuses. Bluefield State College also cancled classes and West Virginia University planned to dismiss classes at 1 p.m.
