Shenandoah County Public Schools are one of nine school divisions to receive awards in the 2011 Virginia School Boards Association Green Schools Challenge.
Shenandoah County schools earned a silver certification for their efforts to encourage and use environmentally friendly practices and procedures.
The awards were announced on Nov. 16 at the VSBA Annual Convention.
The Green Schools Challenge was part of a competition designed to encourage schools to practice environmentally friendly methods and policies.
