Ware Elementary School students received special visitors Tuesday morning.
Del. Dickie Bell and various school board members attended a class at the Staunton school as part of “Take Your Legislator to School Day.”
The elected officials helped with the morning car drop-off line as they greed kids when they arrived to school.
They also helped patrol and clean the cafeteria during breakfast.
The purpose of this day is to help public officials see a real depiction of how schools operate on a daily basis.
Del. Bell, a retired teacher, says it was like being back in the classroom.
“We're asked to make some very difficult decisions regarding education and education funding. I think it's very important that they get out to the schools, that they meet the teachers, meet the children, meet their parents and see what's going on inside these buildings,” said Bell.
He also thinks it's an important reminder for legislators to be held accountable by those that they represent.
Several other schools in the area have had visits from legislators earlier this month.
