Krol Says Generals Need to "Finish the Deal" in '10

Stonewall Jackson was a two-win football team in 2009, but according to coach Richard Krol, the Generals should have been better.

"We lost to teams we shouldn't have lost to. We were close in games and just couldn't pull it off," he says. "We just didn't finish the deal in a lot of cases, and this year we'll finish the deal."

Krol says one of his former players, Patrick Smoot, will be the team's new offensive coordinator this fall.

Smoot spent the past four years catching passes at Bridgewater. Now Krol says Smoot will be calling them.

"And again, I say this every year. But I mean it," Krol says with a laugh. "We're going to try to pass a few more times. We're going to actually try to throw the ball. Hopefully we can."

But Krol says the key to snapping Stonewall's streak of back-to-back losing seasons is a strong start.

"Success breeds success. If we have some early success I think we can be okay," he explains. "If things go a little rough for us early, we're just going to have to wait and see."
