The Waynesboro Little Giants only won one game last year, but that was a big deal. Waynesboro went winless the year before, and now it seems the tide is changing at WHS.

The Little Giants seem to have the talent necessary to win more than three games for the first time since 1999. Waynesboro returns 16 seniors this season and a surplus of talent at the skill positions, but the crown jewel is junior quarterback Chris Baker. Baker is back in the fold after breaking his ankle last season. With a season under his belt as a starter, Coach Derek McDaniel is ready to put more on his young signal caller's shoulders.

"Hard to believe he's that football player you see on the field," said Coach McDaniel. "He's such a nice kid. He is a man-child, and he is the centerpiece of our offense, running it and throwing it. We need to use his throwing ability more."

"He's got a rocket," said senior center Matt Everidge. "He can throw the ball easily 50 yards on accurate. That kid is a rock. When he runs the ball, he's like a bowling ball. You can't stop him."

"I'm very excited to throw," said Baker, "because we have a bunch of wide receivers that's pretty good and fast, so I can just throw it up and they'll go get it. I hope we win more than one game and see the playoffs this year. That's what we're looking for."
