PETERSBURG, WV – At Petersburg, it's been a while since the Vikings have seen a winning season, more than a decade. But third year coach Jeff Dodd thinks this season, might finally be the time his team breaks through.
2012 was about physically retooling his team; 2013 is about taking advantage of that rebuilt team.
The Vikings, stormed out to a 4-1 start a year ago, more wins than in the past three seasons combined. But after that hot start, Petersburg struggled for the rest of the season, going winless the rest of the way.
Now, Petersburg players say they're hungry for more success and hopefully a trip to the postseason. With a better attitude, Coach Dodd is expecting even more from this team.
Defensively, the Vikings will stick to a 4-4, while on offense they'll base out of multiple formations.
Speed will once again be a strength, especially at the skill positions and Petersburg will return more than half their starters from 2012. The question is whether or not the Vikings can capitalize on the momentum they've gained.
