WAYNESBORO, Va. - The Waynesboro football team is tired of losing. The Little Giants have won two games over the past four seasons, but all of that adversity may finally pay off this season.
"Well you know, anytime you have a win-less season it's tough,” said Head Coach Derek McDaniel. “It's tough on you mentally, and I think the kids gain mental toughness through that. It's never easy to go through a season and be win-less. And I think it's a little bit, it created a little more hunger for them coming out. We want to taste victory, and more than once."
In addition to their new-found hunger, the Little Giants are also returning thirteen starters, including seven on offense. Having the same quarterback, fullback, running back, and most of the offensive line will help them run their triple option offense more effectively.
"I'd like to win more than two games this year,” said Waynesboro lineman Nathan Henderson. “I don't like to talk about wins and losses, but I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of coming out on Friday night and getting our butts kicked. They just want to come out here. They're hungry. We had a horrible season last year. We're ready to win."
Waynesboro may not be a giant in the Valley District this season, but don't be surprised if they make a little noise.
