NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the death of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor is a "terrible tragedy" that many people are struggling to understand.

Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot in his Miami area home by an apparent intruder.

Goodell says the league will honor Taylor's memory at all games this weekend.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder says Taylor's death is the "worst imaginable tragedy."

Taylor's father has released a statement saying "It is with deep regret that a young man had to come to his end so soon." Pedro Taylor also thanked fans, hospital staff, the Redskins and the media.

Fans have been making a makeshift memorial by laying flowers on a field near the front entrance to the facility. And several people have been paying respects at Taylor's parking space.

Sean Taylor should be hounered not only as a dad but as a hero he protected his family and he took a shot for them everyone should look up to this dude. If we had more people like this around here people wouldnt get shot as much. This man gave up his carrer just to keep his family safe. That is why they are still alive. My prayers go to the family for there horrible loss of a wonderful man.
