One area community is on the edge of its seat on the eve before the State Football Championship Game. Driving on Route 254 you can see a sign saying: "Go Gap, Win One for Us!"
Area resident Melinda Shifflett says she's not alone and that the Augusta County community wants Buffalo Gap to bring home a win.
"The team has really pulled together to get this far, and we're rooting for them all the way and we know they can do it," says Shifflett.
There's no doubt the students are excited. Cars painted with slogans litter the parking lot. Senior Lindsay McGuffin has repainted her car three times.
She says, "I've had it on all week. I was at the bank last night and everyone was struggling to see it."
Inside the school, banners are hung from every wall and even some of the lights are covered with black and gold.
"We put them up because there is this ambiance here that there's nothing but black in gold, and we didn't want them coming in here this morning thinking white when they should be thinking black and gold," says Teacher Jo Fields.
The school has its share of super fans, from its teachers to its students.
"I've been in education a long time. I used to do the cheerleaders for years, so this excitement we're seeing our guys go to the state championship can't express how excited we are," says Fields.
McGuffin says, "I've been to every game since my sophomore year, so about 35, and this is it finally, a championship."
The students say the football team sees their spirit, and it will make a difference on the field, which is why you see black and gold buttons, shirts, outfits and even painted finger nails. Many students say they'll be heading out to see the game Saturday.
