New West Virginia coach Bill Stewart has hired three assistant coaches. Marshall defensive coordinator Steve Dunlap was named WVU's assistant head coach in charge of safeties Friday.

David Lockwood comes over from Kentucky to take over as cornerbacks coach and Chris Beatty will coach running backs, the same post he held at Northern Illinois in 2007.

Former West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan last month and hired six former Mountaineer assistant coaches and five members of their support staff. That left only defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel and defensive line coach Bill Kirelawich.

With Casteel and Kirelawich returning, Stewart wanted to get his defensive staff in place first. He is still in the process of hiring most of his offensive staff, including a coordinator, and must replace WVU's entire strength and conditioning staff.

Stewart says he's still talking with other candidates and he's not in any hurry. The national signing date for high school recruits is February 6.
