The West Virginia football team starts spring practice under new coach Bill Stewart Friday.
Stewart was an assistant for seven seasons under Rich Rodriguez but took over as interim coach when Rodriguez left for Michigan in December. Stewart then was named head coach the day after the Mountaineers beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
Now that the team is his, Stewart plans to rework the playbook a bit.
He's going to leave the defensive side intact but wants to get more passing into the offense. Both of West Virginia's losses last season occurred when the team rushed for less than 200 yards. So Stewart wants to give the offense another dimension in the final season for quarterback Pat White.
Stewart also plans to have White roll out more instead of running straight ahead out of the shotgun formation.
